2019 My Favorite Things
No surprise here, Art Supplies are on the top of my list for:
My Favorite Things in 2019!
Some of my Favorite Things that is….
Hands down, I’m an Art Supply ‘Collector’ in a big way. It’s hard to imagine that at one time, all my art supplies could fit on one of those decorative ladders one might find in a Homegoods store. Now, I have a 17 x 20 studio, a 12 x 10 room, and a storage area outside of the house to corral all my supplies!!
My collection of various supplies weren’t gathered overnight. But, over the last 10 or so years that I’ve been painting, it sure has accumulated!
So what are some of my favorite things I’ve been using in 2019 (either in the studio or around my house) that I feel is share worthy?
Read on to find out!
Here’s a breakdown of some of my favorite supplies in no particular order.
****UPDATE—-This list is PART ONE , I have so many favorites that I’m going to have to create more than one list!
- This water bucket is the bomb. 3 Wells for your water will keep you painting longer and changing water less.
- This Silicone Bowl Scraper from Messermeister
- Flowing lines and scribbly marks would not be possible without this amazing applicator by David Ford:
- Jerry's Jumbo Jet Black Pencil is unfortunately Out of Stock, but I would put it on your wish list anyway for when they receive it back in the warehouse (or you may find it still in stock at your local Jerry's Artarama. I use these in EVERY painting virtually.
Acrylic paint is my main stay of course for a large majority of my work. I love so many brands and colors that it's hard to narrow down my choices. I love Golden Fluids. One color that is essential is Quinicridone Nickel Azo Gold. This should be in every acrylic painter's tool box.
Another go to is Golden's Payne's Gray:
And for soft body, I use regular old titanium white all the time.
- Two of my "Secret Sauces" for painterly tricks are Glazing Medium
and Ultra Matte Medium.
- It's hard to paint without brushes (of course I typically use scrapers, palette knives, and my fingers to add paint during a painting session for a large majority of most mixed media compositions.
Acrylic Brushes I use most often are the Princeton Catalyst brand. Especially the brights:
- A less expensive alternative are the Mimik Hog Brushes by Creative Mark:
- If you are going to paint large, a mural brush is the way to go. Not super large, but large enough to work in most medium to large paintings is the Creative Mark Mural Brush size 40
- I just started using storage containers for my paint that I mix for special projects or colors across several pieces. *Granted, your paint won't last forever in these but they do last a long time with proper sealing.
- In addition to fluid/soft body acrylic painting, my Zen Painting process uses Golden's High Flow acrylic paint and assorted pens and markers. My favorite White Gel Pen for illustration is the Uni Ball Signo White Gel Pen. I buy them by the box.
- Regular illustration, I couldn't live without my Faber Castell Artist Pitt Pens. The wallet packs give you a good variety but I find myself using the XS or the S the most.
- Speaking of High Flow paint by Golden--they have a variety of sets to get you started. I think I have every color in the line, but here is one that is good for illustrating
- Another set that has colors I use frequently:
